it's a good thing...

that R29  and Classic Case say denim jackets + flouncy skirts are in...

...since that's EXACTLY what I'm wearing today.

New paperbag-waist black/blue/cream skirt plus old Gap denim jackie = my coworker telling me I looked like a 60s protester. All I'd have to do would be to switch my innocuous pins (kitty with headphones, boy with book, "sponsored by Burberry") to "NO ON NIXON" and she'd be right.

TO DO: (No Subject) Garage Sale

With the very lovely Chelsea & Jaclyn of (No Subject) hosting, and goodies from my favorite locals Topsy Design, Geri of because i'm addicted, and the always-world-improving 826 LA... this one's a no-brainer.

SO GOING!

this sh*t is... well, you know.

I don't usually post stuff unless I love it or hate it. In this case, I'm not sure yet, to be honest. Miuccia can normally do no wrong in my book, so I'm going to go with "she's right and it's fabulous" and applaud her for doing something bold and thought-provoking and, well, funny -- even if I find it pretty unwearable.

exhibit A. straight up, nothing subtle about...

BANANAS!!!*
"Made entirely out of Japanese cottons and cut in simple, if boxy, shapes, Prada’s spring line featured no shortage of Breton-inspired stripes, bright solids, and, well, bananas."

exhibit B. look at the wonderful yellow nudes clutching green bananas!

“I’m tired of minimalism,” Prada told WWD before her show. “I asked myself, ‘How can I do minimal Baroque?’”

exhibit C.  MIUCCIAAAAAA.

happy fashion virgasm

Hello there,

Today is September 22nd, so it's the last chance to celebrate Virgo season and the neuroses and obsessions and organizational diseases that make Virgos like me so much fun to be around (ahem), and - it turns out - such fantabulous fashion bloggers. I didn't realize until this year how many of my fave internet ladiez are Virgies... but look!

Sarah Von
This incredibly, disgustingly cool and world-improving lady is not only an ESL teacher, a world traveler, the resident of the most adorably and chic apartment EVER and the author of Yes and Yes, but she's also such a Virgo that she started The Secret Society of List Addicts, which I keep meaning to join at some point.
Her lists are awesome. Like this one:

Nubby and Gala
Each incredibly successful fashion/lifestyle bloggers in their own right, Gala Darling and Nubby Twiglet are the perfect pair.  Of COURSE they hosted a joint birthday party in the park, and coordinated their outfits (P.S. Check out Nubby's "Avant Garde" necklace made by my friend Jen!). Gala's list-making and heart-checkbox-check-offing is nothin' but Virgo, as is Nubby's obvious organizational skillz and  serious dedication (to glossy, glossy black).

Birthday cuteness. I'm guessing the only reason Nubby's cupcake isn't color-coded to her outfit is that icing doesn't come in black.

Keiko Lynn
Long, long ago, I was a college student re-making vintage clothing and selling it on the internets. Keiko's e-shop, Postlapsaria, was the first legit place to sell my pieces, and Keiko is not only a total doll but also gorgeous and a really talented designer. Oh, and she loves bunnies.
Virgos are really good at matching. I bet she doesn't even realize that she matched the cuffs of her shorts to the flowers on her rad vintage top. GAWDD.

Me
I can't compete with the above luminaries of fashion bloggary, but I can definitely rival any of them, I betcha, in Virgo quirks. I do enjoy the lists, and in perfecting all kinds of totally unnecessary visual bits and pieces. I luurrrve dorky themes, so every year, come birthday time, I end up sitting up late on my couch making ridiculous things like this:

...and my friends know me well enough that they actually managed to color-coordinate my birthday by pure guesswork.  Sighhh.

 ice creamania!
YAY.

On that goofy, pink note: onward with productivity... and happy belated birthday to all :)

Friday, September 3

yes please.

I didn't know about the carrot Banana Republic is dangling in front of us this weekend until Danielle of Final Fashion mentioned it on Twitter... but it's pretty bitchin', and though I don't normally promote retailers for any reason other than sheer obsession/excess drool, I would love for one of you to win an extra year's salary (if some dreadful accident occurs and I don't).

AHEM:
Beginning Friday, September 3 and ending Monday, September 6, customers can walk into any one of Banana Republic’s U.S. and Canada stores to receive a game piece which will award them 15%, 25%, or 50% off their purchases during the Labor Day Weekend. (No purchase is necessary.)
One grand prize winner will win a match of their annual salary up to $100,000, with a minimum payout of $50,000 even if they don’t have a salary.*

*according to this, i may as well not have a salary. thanks.

EveryJoe says that Banana Republic’s Facebook fan poll asked how a winner would use their winnings. Respondents indicated that they would:
  • Quit my job, turn off my alarm and sleep in for a year: 3%
  • Stockpile the cash, change nothing: 14%
  • Buy an expensive new toy 1%
  • Pay off personal debts: 30%
  • Start my own company: 11%
  • Help a friend, family member or charity: 7%
  • Take a dream vacation: 32%
I think first I'd go to the dream vacation spot, throw my phone in the ocean and THEN turn off the alarm. After I bought this.
I mean, ummmm, first I would donate half to those in need, then pay off my car, and then... keep working like a responsible human being. Right.

Which would you do?
